My favorite Cosmic Dead album besides the followup, Inner Sanctum (2013). This album is like the first Amon Düül transported from 1968 to a contemporary studio with Higashi Hiroshi on the synths and mixing boards. Well worth picking this up while its on record again, and just in time to whet your apatite for their forthcoming Psych is Dead album!
Favorite track: Anatta/Khartomb.

The Exalted King was the Cosmic Dead's follow up to their 2011 self-titled debut, which was for many the definitive mind expanding statement of the last ten years. Now, their second opus at last has a repressing on double-LP format with a very eye popping reworking of the original artwork on a heavy card gatefold sleeve.
From the Icarus-like trance ascension of opener "The Exalted King", the band enters to a deeply mind-blowing interplay between trip-rock experiments and cosmic ambition. Each album side is uninterrupted, a continuous stream of deep spaced out zones recalling the rich tones and pulse of your early 1970s kosmische heroes with latter day stoned-out psychedelia. Sometimes wandering in silently dark semi-acoustic mysteries of the cosmos, and in the next moment orbiting to walls of sound with outer space echoes and alien atmospheres.
The Cosmic Dead know how to ride the edge of groove and gently cut back to spacey atmospherics to superb effect. The record explodes their sound in all directions; spacier, trippier, headier, and far more expansive than ever. Revivalists have attempted to capture and modernize the sound, and retro enthusiasts have grappled in authenticity, but the Dead are beyond: they ARE that sound! It's music floating so naturally that it immediately puts the listener into a state where time seems to disappear. They invite you to experience intense flashbacks of tribal British space rock and classic krautrock bubbled through a psych filter. A cosmic fan's nirvana. Not to be missed!
Originally released on the Cosmik Eye label, this new repress comes via Cardinal Fuzz (UK) and Sky Lantern Records (US). Exalted King is available in a jagged combined edition of 557 copies: 150 on black vinyl, 182 color variant A, and 225 color variant B.
